Harvey Lindsay Jr. and Ferguson Enterprises are winners of the 14th annual Darden Awards for Regional Leadership.
Started in 2005 and named for the founder of the CIVIC Leadership Institute, the late Joshua P. Darden Jr., the awards are conferred upon an individual and a corporation whose contributions and service have made a significant impact on the Hampton Roads community.
Lindsay, chairman of Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate, is the recipient of the Individual Darden Award. Ferguson Enterprises, a wholesale distributor of residential and commercial plumbing supplies, is this year’s Corporate Darden Award winner.
Cathy Lewis, president and CEO of the CIVIC Leadership Institute, said Lindsay epitomizes regional leadership, noting he has been at the center of some of the most iconic moments in the modern history of Hampton Roads.
“He’s played a significant role in the region at critical moments of great consequence,” Lewis said in a news release. “He’s never shied away from controversial public issues and he has lived an uncommonly full and selfless life.”
Lewis also noted Ferguson, which has more than 1,400 locations and is a $15 billion company, has always had a strong philanthropic commitment to support military families, education and workforce development in Hampton Roads where it is headquartered.
Recipients will receive their awards at a reception Nov. 14 at Norfolk’s Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center.
